GREY \\ WATER Introduces Us To “Jimmy” With Their New Single

If you’re looking for bright, airy, uplifting indie music, rich with lilting vocals and atmospheric accompaniments, we got you. Your search is over. GREY \\ WATER (the \\ is silent, by the way) is a Toronto-based, self-described Indie Rock Dream Pop group with a brand new single, “Jimmy,” they released just last month. The track is fore-bearer for their upcoming EP currently in the works, due to drop this fall.

GREY \\ WATER began in 2015, starting out as a solo project for vocalist Carlotte Grace Victoria and evolving into so much more. Now, the group is, as described on their Facebook page, “a culmination of close friends who enhance the atmospheric indie pop songs to create a blend of influences.” Such friends include Jonathan Malström, Devon Savas, William Fachin, Ryan Greenlaw, Michael Morabito, Mac Rogers, and more. The group wants to try and maintain something of a DIY spirit, even while recording new material in a studio for the first time. An exploration of variety in music creation—I like it!

The group’s first EP, L O V E, released last year, is a four-track, jazz reminiscent but undoubtedly indie set that’ll have you swaying along to easy beats and Charlotte Grace Victoria’s haunting, echoing vocals. Do yourself a favor and take a listen at GREY \\ WATER’s Soundcloud (linked below), which has all of their music thus far, including “Jimmy.”

The latest single doesn’t branch too far away from the style introduced in L O V E, though there is more of an upbeat, rock element to it. Vocals come in at around the 26 second mark, and they are absolutely stunning. According to Sidewalk Hustle, “‘Jimmy’ bursts with catchy riffs and [is] carried along by the ethereal vocals of lead singer Charlotte Grace Victoria. Offering her own thoughts on the song, Victoria says: ‘I feel as though the story of Jimmy and his significant other reflects the same idea. On the surface, there is a couple in the midst of honeymoon love, yet along with that, there is an undertone of the pressure to change and evolve into something new.’”

GREY \\ WATER will be performing on July 25 at Horseshoe Tavern in Toronto for Indie88’s Nu Music Nite. Check them out live if you can, but if you can’t, just go ahead and take a gander at all their social media pages, linked below!
