Illyin Pipes from Toronto has just released their new single and video, “Waking Up”, from their debut EP, Spaces. The EP is set for release in August, but for now they tease us with what the EP will hold with their single.
As the band says their single is carefree, just like how the summer is. However, it holds a dark undertone and the song is very nostalgic overall. The video for the song was filmed while the band was touring in England. In the video the vocalist, Jill is seen frolicking through a field of wildflowers, saluting a lake on a warm evening, and reaching high among countryside cliffs. Again this tone that “Waking Up” portrays hints at the EP’s overall theme.
“I was struggling with a few things while trying to maintain an illusion of positivity and balance. The dichotomy of stability and disorder is present in ‘Waking Up’ as well as the remainder of the EP’s songs, even if that wasn’t intentional when we wrote them.” says Jill.
