Lifelong American guitarist, singer, and songwriter Jelly Ellington just released his debut album, All In, last month. From the age of seven, the North Carolina-born musician has had a passion for music, “quietly forging the fire within his playing” and even touring the country with some of his favorite rock bands in his teen years, later playing with likes of Sonnymoon and The Wailers at Berklee College of Music. Now, here he is, debuting his own full-length album. Pretty inspirational, huh?
Based in Austin, Texas, Jelly is known for his exciting and untamed live performances, showing zeal, fearlessness, and impassioned playing wherever he goes. His style is rather unique—smooth, soulful vocals accompanied by an edgy guitar style that’s a perfect blend of rock n’ roll, blues, and funk. And he doesn’t disappoint with that unique style in All In. The album is a solid, good listen—cohesive with impressive guitar licks and lilting vocal melodies that will have you bopping along to the beat (see “Set Me Free”) or swaying to the flowing, accompanying strings (see “Wait For You”). Overall, Jelly’s message to his fans, “tie up your chucks, throw on your shades, and turn up the music loud,” is pretty much felt throughout album.
To this day, Jelly has shared the stage and recorded with Grammy Award-winning artist Anna Wise, Spoon, Alejandro Escovedo, Toubab Krewe, Jackie Venson, Eric Tessmer, Chris Duarte, and Mingo Fishtrap. What’s next for Jelly Ellington? How about a country-wide tour? Shows start this week! Check out the links below for more information and to listen to his debut album All In!
